Have the desire to learn to quilt? Learn the basic skills for machine piecing in this 5-week class. Using Alex Anderson’s Start Quilting, you will learn the tools & how to use them, choosing fabrics, and you will construct a small sampler quilt.          

Binding, Binding, & More Binding      Darlene Miller

One – 6 Hour Session                                $30.00

Five different types of bindings will be discussed, and you are going to make samples of three types, from the simple charity bindings through award winning bindings. You will be learning how to do bindings that are all machine stitched and from there I will show you how to make more difficult bindings and ones finished by hand. They really are easy, and I have several tips that I will be teaching you that make them easier - and yet very professional when finished.

It’s time to step up your binding skills and learn to finish your quilt with a creative binding. You will be surprised at how easy it can be. You will be introduced to a trim, a flange, and another decorative design to enhance your quilt.

This class will guide you through some things to think about and give you tools to use to identify & explain the importance of color values, intensity, and scale of prints. It can be fun! Beginning Foundation Paper Piecing               Jennifer Johnson

Foundation paper-piecing is a quilt block construction technique that will bring joy to your heart with its beautifully sharp points and precise seams. Many people are intimidated by the seeming complexity of paper-piecing, but I will guide you through the step-by-step process of producing three to four paper-pieced designs. We will also discuss different ways to implement paper- pieced blocks into your projects.  Come give this fun technique a try! I think you will be delighted with the results. Good for confident beginners and up.

Townsquare is a skill building Block of the Month program only available at A Quilter’s Oasis. It will run January to November and includes an intro/prep class on January 2, unique blocks that encompass a variety of techniques, and a reveal party in November. Participants have access to 2 size options for the quilt. The wall-hanging/throw size is 40” x 56”, and the larger quilt size is 60” x 84”.

Each month will feature a 30-minute block demo and be available through Zoom for those that are unable to make it in person. Some of the skills that will be covered in this BOM program are nesting seams, flip and sew techniques, and working with exposed bias edges.

Monthly demo will be last Tuesday of each month

Potluck is a quick and easy pattern for table runners and placemats. You can use your favorite novelty print fabric and make these as holiday gifts for friends and family.  You will learn how to make half square triangles in this class and be able to complete a runner or placemats or possibly both!

The class teaches you the basics of locker hooking.The types of canvas, locker hooking medium and the tools you need. It is a craft that is affordable, easy to learn with a sense of accomplishment. The designs can be simple or complexed as your skills grow.

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner VI Mystery Table Runner

This is a 1 session Mystery Table Runner in a Day! You will create a fun Debbie Caffrey Mystery Table Runner in “Mystery” format. We will take it step by step during class and by the end of the day you will have a completed project. This is a great skill builder class for a quilter at any skill level. Questionable Outcome Mystery Quilt                   Heidi Trelease

This is a 12-week class creating a beautiful Debbie Caffrey Mystery Quilt.  Class will meet every other week for 6 sessions.  For each of the first 5 sessions, you will receive 2-3 steps, along with a demonstration of the instructions, to be completed over the following 2 weeks.  During the final session, we will have a “reveal party” for everyone to show off their masterpiece.  It’s a wonderful class for all skill levels.  Create a beautiful quilt one step at a time! This class is offered both in person and in a virtual format for those unable to attend in person.

In this basic Crazy Quilting class, you will be given the choice to construct a heart or a square. Traditional piecing technique will be taught. Hand embroidery stitches introduced are the stem stitch, lazy daisy, chain, and feather stitch. Silk ribbon stitches, lace painting, button clusters as well as silk ribbon bobbin work will enhance your individual crazy quilted block.

The Mav Pack is great for traveling, shopping, or just everyday use. Everything necessary is close at hand.This is an intermediate pattern in that it uses advanced bag making techniques that require the sewer to have general familiarity with bag making. It requires accurate cutting/sewing and installing a zipper. The bag is “turned” through the opening left in the pocket which gives the bag a nice snug, finished lining. The is no binding involved.

You will love this sturdy oversized caddy with lots of easy-to-access slip pockets and dividers to hold and organize all your supplies. Six slip pockets on the exterior provide easy access to tools and supplies and a zippered pocket on one end keeps personal items safe and secure. Expanding dividers on the inside open to organize a multitude of supplies or collapse to fall flat against the interior of the caddy affording a wide-open interior for plenty of storage possibilities.Comfy padded fabric handles make carrying easy. These bags are the perfect gift for anyone, especially for those living in Arizona. This pattern requires accurate cutting & sewing. Previous bag making experience is helpful.

This class will include a look at what is possible, a discussion on Color Theory which plays a significant role in Collage Quilting, fabric choices and creating a collage using the Emily Taylor Parchment Pressing Technique.You will choose one of the four bird designs from the book (required) Take Flight; either the Duck, Raven, Bluebird, or Quail to make your collage.

Free Motion Machine Quilting          Darlene Miller

Learn the basics of Free Motion Quilting.  You will receive instructions on how to prepare and baste your quilt, how to plan your stitching, why and where to use various quilting designs, and practice amazingly simple designs.  We will be discussing battings, threads, needles, and where to get your stitching inspiration.  Most of all you will gain the confidence to say “Yes, I can free motion quilt”!  It is so easy when you know where to start, so much fun and gives you a real sense of being creative!

This is the perfect class to get started using the Westalee Rulers. You will be using the Westalee Sample set #1. The 2 sessions will include setting up your machine, the use of each template, and how to set up designs that work together.

Learn how to finish your quilts on your domestic sewing machine using your WALKING FOOT!Straight line quilting, matchstick quilting, curvy lines, and echo quilting will all be taught. Other topics discussed will be thread choice, how to choose the correct batting and how to prepare your quilt top.

In this class you will make Flying Geese, Half-square triangles and pop some corners! Your Wing Clipper and Tucker Trimmer are essential. The Corner Pop makes those folded corners easy. We will spend one session on the Flying Geese, another on the triangles and popped corners, and the final session on block assembly. The block looks harder than it is, but there are a lot of parts that must be made accurately for the block to fit together correctly. Karen has all the tips necessary for you to be successful.

The possibilities are endless!

Ray teaches this class regularly, and each class is different and unique. All classes are based on new and unpublished designs created by him.  He will supply 40, 2 1/2" strips, quilt quality fabrics from his stash for your project.  Because it's an Improv class, you will not know what we are making until the day of class.  Ray has successfully taught this great fun class for several years, and everyone is amazed at the great projects that can be created from stash strips.  A fun and adventurous attitude is required. You will be expected to purchase additional fabric, up to 4 yards of coordinating fabric for this project. Because you are choosing your strips from the stash it is difficult to purchase the coordinating fabric in advance.  The Oasis has a great assortment of coordinating fabrics for this project.

A Scrappy Kind of Love is a fun quilt or wall hanging that can use scraps, jelly rolls (large quilt), layer cake (small quilt), or yardage. You can make your letters with neutrals as shown on the pattern or shake it up and make the letters your colorful fabric as in the class sample! This will be a working class; sew, cut, sew, cut, etc. Lots of fun and easy for beginners!

T-Shirt Quilt Technique                Annette Duley

T-shirts piling up? They represent accomplishments, milestones, interests, etc. Let’s pull them out and put them together. This is an easy hand on demo style class to get you going. We will discuss block sizes, stabilizing, layouts, and finishing. Let’s celebrate those memories.

The Cookie Cutter quilt is a fat quarter friendly pattern available in 5 sizes. You will learn to use the Super Sidekick ruler by Jaybird Quilts to construct these fun blocks, with NO Y seams! Before leaving class, you will have some blocks constructed and the knowledge to finish assembling the quilt top at home.

This bookshelf class will focus on TECHNIQUES used to build a customized bookshelf quilt. You will be working on a custom pattern that you design. Inspired by a photo in Arizona Magazine of an antique church stained glass window, this vibrant and bright quilt is easy and fun to make. Using Fat Quarters and some yardage, your color choices will make it unique and truly yours. Created in “units” this quilt is easy to assemble. Multiple methods of flying geese and half square triangles will be discussed. You will have a complete understanding of the pattern and design and be able to finish this quilt at home.

Enjoy creating this fun Zig Zag quilt while learning the versatility of Log Cabin Blocks. This is a scrap friendly quilt, but the fabrics must read light or dark to obtain the Zig Zag effect. The center of the block could also be scrappy or a consistent color. You will learn the technique of setting and corner triangles for putting this quilt “On Point”, Class fee includes pattern.

The River Pond quilt is a beautiful quilt that evokes a mountain landscape reflected in the waters below. The modern(ish) design of the quilt consists of cleverly pieced blocks turned on point and sewn into diagonal strips. It is not as hard as it looks, but it does require precise cutting, a precise quarter inch seam, and good organization. You will relay enjoy the process of building this quilt as well as the final product. The two sessions should enable you to get all your blocks made and have a good start on assembling the top.

Mexican Stars                         Joanne Rice

Mexican Stars has a beautiful curvy look with no curved piecing. Easy tricks to fool the eye and amaze your family and friends. The finished quilt is simply stunning, no matter what colors you choose, plus it is a joy to make. Construction is much easier than it looks.

In this class you will learn how to use the Wonder Curve ruler to cut, sew, and trim curves that turn out perfect each time. You will complete several Flower Pop blocks and be well on your way to completing this happy flower wall-hanging for spring!

Our Hearts will Go On          Vicki Watson

This is a lovely variation of a Storm at Sea quilt, featuring hearts; Queen size 88 ½” x 103 ½” has 2 hearts in the quilt center, Lap size 51 ½” x 66 ½” has one heart in the center. To make cutting and piecing this quilt easier and faster the Diamond Rects ruler is recommended. The pattern explains how to make the quilt with or without this ruler. There are no curved seams in this quilt.

Do you love the Double Wedding Ring quilt but don’t have the desire to work with templates? Then this is the class for you! Sew Kind of Wonderful has designed a contemporary Double Wedding Ring pattern that starts with making strip sets that are straight pieced. Using their Quick Curve Ruler, you will cut your curved pieces and easily assemble the “blocks”. This makes the entire process quicker and easier than the traditional template method.

We have set aside several days just for you to come and sew. Bring a project or two of your own choosing and get some serious work done on it. While these are self-guided sew days, staff may be available to assist with answering questions.Come join the fun!
